Collaboration Agreement (CA) Between Pahang State Secretary Incorporated and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar and Tadau Energy Sdn Bhd
1 December 2023 – His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah witnessed the exchange of collaboration agreement between Pahang State Secretary Incorporated, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar and Tadau Energy for the development of a 2 gigawatt (GW) wind farm in Pahang during the opening ceremony of Malaysian Pavilion at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC.
The 2GW wind farm will be developed in phases, with the first phase involving the installation of wind turbines with a total power generation of 100MW. The total gross development cost for the first phase is estimated at RM800 million and is targeted to be completed in three years.
Masdar Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, said: “We are very proud to be strengthening our support for Malaysia’s renewable energy ambitions with this partnership. As a clean energy pioneer with over 17 years experience in deploying renewable and clean energy projects at scale, we look forward to helping build Malaysia’s renewable energy capacity with this agreement in support of its net-zero targets.”
Pahang aims to become the home of Malaysia’s first wind farm and the project is expected to compliment Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and National Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) while increasing Pahang’s availability of renewable energy, increasing foreign investor confidence and the improvement of industry in Pahang. It is hoped that the wind farm will attract investments from Multi-National Companies with data centres to the state while increasing eco-tourism.
The Collaboration agreement was signed by the Deputy State Secretary of Pahang, YH Dato’ Ali Syahbana bin Sabaruddin, the Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, Mr. Abdulla Zayed, Masdar’s Head of Development & Investment and the Chief Executive Officer of Tadau Energy, Dato’ Susanna Lim.
The Ceremony was also attended by His Highness Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Tuan Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, YAB Dato' Sri Haji Wan Rosdy bin Wan Ismail, Chief Minister of Pahang, and YH Dato' Kamarul’ Arifin bin Ahmad, Business and Investment Officer of Pahang.
The said Collaboration agreement is part of the investment in the MOU between Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Masdar which was signed and witnessed by YAB Prime Minister during his visit to UAE on 5th and 6th October 2023. The MOU is set for Masdar to invest USD8 billion for up to 10GW of renewable energy projects in a strategic partnership that will significantly contribute to Malaysia’s sustainable energy transformation.
MIDA is also set to facilitate Masdar on renewable projects by 2035, to include ground mounted, roof top and floating solar power plants, onshore wind arms and battery energy storage.
The tripartite collaboration agreement between Pahang State Secretary Incorporated, Masdar and Tadau Energy for the development of a 2GW wind farm in Pahang marks an important milestone for Pahang as well as Malaysia in the pursuit of a sustainable and greener future.
